What is an online, self-paced course? The course is an electronic, interactive class with an instructor and students. You access the course via the Internet from a computer at home/work or in a lab -- any time, day or night. Self-paced means that you may complete the course on or before the final date established for the semester. Utilizing the World Wide Web (WWW), the course pairs self-study learning materials with instructor guidance to allow students to both work at their own pace and learn in a class environment, while retaining access to valuable instructor expertise. The online instructor monitors the students progress and advises the student as appropriate via e-mail, discussion forums, and chats. The courses are built around a syllabus, textbook(s), online documents, and audio/visual programs. Students are evaluated by means of tests, assignments, and projects. The combination of self-paced learning materials with a highly-qualified instructor provides an effective, flexible, and low-cost training solution for busy students and professionals. After registering for a course, students will be given access to their online classroom. You can 'start' your online class any time after you receive your classroom access. You must purchase the required materials. All other course materials can be found online at the course site. The pace of the class is entirely up to you, as long as you complete your work within the semester in which you enroll. Class deadlines are detailed in each class Schedule of Assignments. You can work through self-study class materials on your own, at times convenient to you. Your online classroom contains notes, assignments, projects, supplementary learning materials, and tests. Your Instructor will work with you one-on-one via e-mail to evaluate your assignments and to help you privately with any questions or problems. If you have questions or comments to share with your Instructor or fellow students publicly, you can post them in the discussion forums in your classroom. This is also a great resource for finding additional tips or answers from your Instructor and other students. If you need specific answers in real-time, or would like to discuss real-life applications of what you are learning, you can sit in on live "office hour" chat sessions scheduled by your Instructor. Office hours will be sent to you via E-mail.

Self-paced means that you may complete the course on or before the final date established for the semester. The schedule is as slow as you can go to finish the course. Choose from the following schedules: 15 weeks (Fall/Spring), 8 weeks (Flex-entry), 4 weeks (Summer). YOU are responsible for scheduling your study time, completing your assignments and plans, and taking tests. Of course, you will work mainly on your own, but not entirely. An instructor is available to help you through the course. Please do not hesitate to contact your instructor. Your instructor is here to help you master the objectives of the course. It is your responsibility to contact the instructor. By now, you probably realize that this course requires motivation and self-discipline on your part. YOU must supply both. Your instructor will not constantly be looking over your shoulder to remind you to study harder or turn in assignments on time. You are responsible for setting your own schedule so you will finish the course on time, which is one of the big differences between this course and a regular lecture course. At the MRKG 1311 Table of Contents menu, click on the chapter assigned. At the Study Notes menu, click on a learning method. In order to learn something new, the average person must be exposed to the information seven times, in different ways. The Study Notes give you the opportunity to learn the chapter information in more than seven ways: Outline, Definitions, Crosswords, Videos, Objectives, Discussion Questions, Test Review, Marketing Plan, and Assignment. Outline is an overview of the chapter found in Marketing. The outlines are designed to assist you in taking notes. Try to summarize each major concept to see if you comprehend the marketing concepts. Definitions are the key terms found in the Marketing chapter. Try solving the Crossword Puzzle at the MRKG 1311 site to see if you have mastered the meaning of important marketing terms. Videos show business people, professionals, and consultants from the business world. The real world comes alive as these people discuss problems and decisions based on how they operate their business. Often you see operations in the business being discussed. The videos help you experience living examples of concepts presented in your textbook . . . experiences often impossible to offer in a classroom. Objectives are the learning objectives for the Marketing chapters. These tell you what you are expected to know upon completion of the chapter and topic. Notes have been made for you. Expand on any that are new to you. Discussion Questions are found at the end of each Marketing chapter. Answering these questions will help you assimilate the topics covered in the chapter. Review includes multiple choice and true/false questions. These questions allow you to evaluate your marketing skill or knowledge. As you might expect, tests are part of your marketing course. There are four tests in this course. Tests generally contain true-false, multiple-choice, and/or essay questions. Marketing Plan allows you to apply what you've learned in the chapter to an actual situation. Assignments you may use Notepad or Microsoft Word to write your answers. When finished, save the results to a file and submit it to your instructor. Be sure to put your name and course number on the actual document.
